Member Bio:
Grew up on Disney's 20K Leagues and those great 50's submarine war movies on TV. As a kid, always dreamed of having a remote controlled Disney Nautilus that could be piloted underwater via a remote TV camera in the wheelhouse. (Now, of course, this is actually possible!) In high school, made the frame for a 36 inch balsa Nautilus (still unfinished in my shop!). Started building my first R/C sub in the early 70's, an SSBN 598, which still awaits completion. Discovered the SubCommittee about 10 years ago while doing online research for the 598. Have since built and sailed successfully a (scratch) Robert Fulton Nautilus and a Dumas Akula. Have a number of scratch boats on the ways, including the 598, all of which I fully enjoy researching and tinkering with. And the fun continues!

Also enjoy traveling Lake Ontario in a 22 ft. cruiser, and playing guitar in a local rock band.

My someday to be completed 1:96 SSBN 598, sporting an aluminum hull with fiberglass bow, stern and turtleback sections.

Bow and stern cones removed to reveal heavy duty aluminum WTC. Overkill? Yeah, but hey, it was the 70's! Who knew?

Even the George Washington's sail was hogged out of a solid chunk of aluminum!

My Type VIIc arrived from Squadron today (4/2/04).

The internals are all new too. In Phase III, I gutted the hull and installed my universal custom 3" WTC, featuring Reverse RCABS, which I first demonstrated successfully at Subregatta 05. All that's left is to upgrade the tail fins.

My Akula sits in front of Dave Welch's, showing her new paint job.
